Overshadowed by all the news lately of Yahoo's new search engine strategies comes a quiet
announcement from
Viewpoint, a once high-flying dot com which provides "Internet graphics and
delivery systems" to clients, about the development of a new, graphically
enhanced toolbar for searching.
Mentioned in an article from Investor's Business Daily earlier this week, the two companies expect to mutually benefit from the relationship:
The struggling software company is developing a new search toolbar for Yahoo users - a move it hopes will fuel a comeback. Yahoo, meanwhile, sees the new toolbar as a way to lure advertisers and users away from rivals.
This new toolbar, set to be released in mid-March, will reportedly allow graphical navigation of searches, a marking feature for backtracking to favorite pages, a pop-up blocker and more.
It's unclear at this time if it will replace the Yahoo Companion toolbar, supplement it or act as a standalone application.
