6. Brand new version of Trillian Pro is available as of this morning. Version 2.013 works with Yahoo IM.

I read that this will be a shooting war the likes of MSN IM vs. AOL IM ca. 1999:

7. to block things like this - if these companies don't realize that NONE of them will become the dominant player, then they are all blind. People like to use what they enjoy, and it's much easier to let people use Trillian if they are comfortable with multiple softwares or who have friends who are on various platforms. Now, we just have to get them to talk to one another....

9. I couldnt get the new yahoo Messenger to work either. Kept crashing on me whenever i tried to run it. Hopefully some of the alternatives mentioned here will do the trick, either trillain or old version of YM. I can still communicate with most of my friends on AIM but a few only use YM

10. Yes i am having problems with yahoo messenger , i have found by not having a shortcut to it helps but when i click on it it crashes quite often very frustrating been thinking of getting rid of it and trying to reload the old one

11. Here is my answer to the Messenger "problem".

1. Uninstall Messenger.
2.Browse to the C:Program FilesYahoo! folder. Delete EVERYTHING in this folder.
3. Open the registry editor (start-> Run-> regedit. Delete everything in the registry that contains the words "Yahoo Messenger".
4. Re-install an earlier version of Messenger (see http://www.zakie.fsnet.co.uk/ChatRoomsStuff/Help/messengerdownloads.htm)

12. It's a cumbersome piece of crap. Too many "cutesy" features that I'll never use, and it hogs system resources. It won't let you:

a.) keep only Yahoo IDs visible in the Friend List, it defaults to whatever name you have in the contact information.

b.) have messages appear in your own default font style and size, despite setting it to do so in the Preferences. Whenever I go to a chat room through Messenger, I now have to see everyone else's inane use of Super-Sized fonts!

I'm sure there are others. In the meantime, I'm re-installing 5.6 until they get a few more versions of 6.0XXXX out.

Arrrghhh ...

13. This version is crap... since downloading my whole system is screwy, messenger won't work and my mouse won't work right... Messenger has always had a problem with my computer's Japanese characters (Win XPJapanese) but now it's even worse... A right click on the bar at the bottom that shows open programs only displays a garbled menu... Very frustrating!!!! Get it right before you implement Yahoo!!!!

14. i installed this version 6 for how many times it keeps crushing my computer!!! I thought its better but its the worst mssger that i downloaded.. well ill just w8 til they fix the problem...for now im gonna use the old version which it works good... anyone having a problem just look for the old yahoo version...

15. yes, thats true. Once u get a Trojan (CWS or some crap like that), it rewrites within the activeX in YM 6.0 and keeps coming back again n again. Best thing is to get that crap off from our PCs and get back 5.6 from the link shown in earlier comments. (by the way, not many sites are allowed to let us download older versions though, so i guess older versions is something we better burn in our CDs).

17. i totally agree with every one, since yahoo has changed i can no longer get in toucch with my friends in chatrooms in the uk. Re directed to lycos which is pants as well as the crap which is know as messenger.

18. Thank you to Ross and narayan for providing a link to older versions of yahoo. I thought it was just me that was having trouble with the new one. My friend likes it, but its been screwing up my computer ever since I downloaded it! Thanks again - I'm going to get rid of this thing and reinstall an older version!
