Rumors swirled, and came true. Yahoo! is definitely acquiring photo-sharing site Flickr. A sense of doom pervades the Flickr user community, while the owners celebrate and issue reassuring predictions of a cautious, win-win merging of two cultures. It's fascinating to observe the emotions surrounding this deal; Yahoo!, at 10 years of age, Yahoo! is perceived as an old-media company that could ruin the delicate Flickr synergies. Nobody wants Flickr to turn into Yahoo! Photos. I think it's more likely that Flickr will play a part in Yahoo! 360, and certainly, Yahoo! Photos might benefit as well.
