Motley Fool is running one of those popular Google vs. Microsoft columns. I have no objection to them, but i wonder why Yahoo! is never featured in these speculations. It's Google vs. The World—Microsoft and Yahoo! included. Why not Yahoo! vs. Microsoft? Is it because Yahoo! has been around longer, and is therefore old news? Yet the company is generating new news just as aggressively as Google is. Yahoo! trounce Microsoft in media content, and is making a play for being an entertainment company faster than Google or Microsoft. In the crucial arena of online community, Yahoo! has gigantic advantages. Personalization? No contest. It's the desktop where Microsoft rules; Google and Yahoo! both have a lead in desktop search. Will either company develop a competing operating system? Perhaps that is the pertinent question, and Google gets most of the speculation there, with some feasible justification. But with the Web just 10 years old, and true integration of connected services still in the infant stage, Yahoo! is as well positioned as anybody.
Google et al Vs. Microsoft

(Page 1)2. I totally disagree that Google has a lead in desktop search. Have you actually used both Google and MSN desktop search? How did you arrive to that conclusion?

3. No one would read about Yahoo Vs Microsoft.
Even if you write a duh article about Google people read it. :)

4. Good points. It seems that Yahoo isn't as 'cool' to talk about or to complain about ala Google or Microsoft, so they do fly under the radar. I think Yahoo's media connections are what's really going to help them going forward. They've done really well integrating media into a user experience... Google and MS not so much.
5. Not to be snarky, but the title spells "et al" wrong. There is only one L, An abbreviation of et alii, meaning "and others."

8. I think the difference between Google a Yahoo is that Google is more aggressive. They came in no time with applications like blogger, map service and Google Earth, messenger, photo organizer and so on.. And somehow Google seems to be better in a way than Yahoo is, in web search for example.
And they just create great tools, give them away for free and live out of advertisments. And slowly Google will know almost everything about users. They will be not just a good search engine of web, but a good search engine of _all_ information. And I think that is an extremely huge value.
