Not so long ago, Y! announced they were
going after Skype with a new version of Messenger - 7.5 Beta.
It was released for download, so - as I've
mentioned before - I just had to get it and play. I dutifully opened a Y! Voice
account and paid for $10 of minutes - the payment shows up in my Y! Billing page. A couple of days later, the download
went away from the US site - no explanation or anything.
The version (7,5,0,333) I have works great - IM
functions are all there, and the VoIP works remarkably well - I've used it several times to dial phones and conference
bridges.
However, I have no way to manage my remaining balance - the call briefly mentions the time I have
left, but the links in the application get redirected to the 7.0 pages. TheHelp takes me to the right page, but My Yahoo Voice Account
doesn't - the URL looks correct at first, but then gets bounced to a Coming Soon page
Does anyone know what
happened to the US version? Or, when it will be back?

I am patiently waiting for yahoo to step up here and launch. I can't wait much longer . . . I am about to get a Skype number.

1. apparently yahoo is currently testing this new service in other areas, you can download their spanish version at http://es.beta.yahoo.com/ , but if you would like the english version then here is a link to a site that offers it: http://www.soft32.com/download-Yahoo_Messenger-30-5.html
