8. I can't think that Yahoo takes Tom Cruise seriously, so I'm assuming that the people who invited him over were hoping for a bit of fun when they got him.

Of course there's probably a very real cash honorarium that Yahoo is paying to the Scientologists, so it wouldn't be all free at his expense, and I don't think it's going to help Yahoo's publicity at any rate. Still, it's been a while since I got to listen to anyone of the intellectual caliber of Cruise. I think the laugh would be worth at least a tiny bit of the cost.

Then there is always the other possibility that whoever hired Cruise is a Scientologist...I don't really want to think about that one.

10. What a lot of angst and teeth-knashing over nothing. I'm not a huge Cruise fan, and I still dont think he's an "influencial speaker"... but he was gracious, open relaxed and thoughtful. Who cares what religion he follows, are we really going to stoop to bashing someone for that? I wasn't in URL's waiting 2-hours for him to arrive late... but he did fly himself up to Sunnyvale and the bit about the bad weather did seem fairly reasonable. All in all, no hypnotizing, no trying to convert people, just an actor... a hell of an actor, who seemed like he enjoyed the conversation and the venue.
