Yahoo! Maps beta satellite images soundly beats the competition

Yahoo! Maps has had a beta version for some time that enables you to call up and manipulate maps at various levels of detail - all without needing to wait for page refreshes between changes. Now they have added satellite imagery which you can view by itself or meld with the map information (aka "hybrid" view).

Other sites have offered this before so we've been waiting for it to arrive a Yahoo! Maps.  For instance, Google has had this and many people favor Google Maps because of it. Now that both offer satellite imagery, I wondered how they compared. So I ran a little test.
Here's my neighborhood as seen with Yahoo! Maps beta satellite imagery at a very close zoom:



And here it is using Google Maps satellite imagery at a little less zoom:

(if you can't make out the fine print, it says, "We are sorry but we don't have imagery at this zoom level for this region. Try zooming out  for a broader look.")

Okay. I've zoomed out until the satellite imagery was available. Here's the best Google can offer:


Yahoo's is well worth the wait.
