Two different alerts have appeared on the Yahoo! Chat front page:When viewed with Firefox:
NOTICE: UPCOMING CHANGES
To make chatting a better experience, Yahoo! Chat will no longer support Java-based chat software. This change will occur in the next few days. After that, you will still be able to access chat rooms using Yahoo! Messenger with Voice.

NOTICE: UPCOMING CHANGES
To make chatting a better experience, Yahoo! Chat will no longer support Java-based chat software. This change will occur in the next few days. After that, you will still be able to access chat rooms with Chat 2.0 software, but for best results we recommend using Yahoo! Messenger with Voice.
In short, if you're a Firefox user, the only way to the Y! Chat Rooms will be through Yahoo! Messenger. If you're an IE user, you can enter via the Chat 2.0 software (it gets loaded automatically when you click on "Enter Chat Rooms" if you're using IE) or use Yahoo! Messenger.
I'm not a 'chatter' and have no idea if this is a big deal or not. How will this affect you?

41. As many have pointed out this was a HUGE blunder by Yahoo, booters and crackers are running wild now and it has NOT stoped the bots.. and yes it also killed groups, and yes you cant use a geko based browser like firefox to chat from the webpage, so people who cant download, and dont use Internet explorer cant chat..
My advice is if they dont bring it back ,( and i sure hope there smart enough to know they better) lock up your computer with very good firewalls and anti virus, and if your going to use messenger, make sure you turn off every option that could allow anyone to send you files or PMs, etc... a very bad day for Yahoo when they made this HUGE mistake . blah.....
