Yahoo! Local is hopefully still in its infancy because there is sooooo much more that can be done with it. Local merchants can be empowered (for a fee of course) to update their company and product information on a whim including a provision for couponing. If a critical mass of local merchants in an area actively participated then visitors would drive each other through word-of-mouth, Y! 360, Y! Answers and Y! Reviews to the various merchant sites seeking out the best deals. The local merchants' offers would be highlighted in Y! Search and Y! Local search results and on their specific Y! Local page. The merchants themselves would promote their Y! Locals presence at their place of business and in their print and broadcast advertising.
And, of course, Y! Local search would be made available on Y! Go - Mobile and TV.
I could see myself, set in my recliner, remote in hand, Y! Go - TV on the television (just for the moment since I'm in the middle of watching a movie I've paused using the DVR function in Y! Go - TV), searching for pizza coupons, clicking on the merchant link, placing and paying for the order online and waiting for the door bell to ring. And if the coupon were really something special I might post a 'blast' on my Y! 360 page to alert my friends. Ah, the life of Riley that would be.
