Yahoo! Photos upgrade moving forward
We had hoped to see this go public earlier this year (as we always do) and then received an update back in March. And today, we just got a new schedule update:
What we know is that a closed beta (not for you or me but for Y! staff) of the Y! Photos upgrade starts this week. The plan is to process and act on the feedback and, if all goes well, begin making it publicly available by the end of June. The process of migrating everyones' photos from the current version to the upgrade will take 3 months for all users - optimistically.
Unlike the Y! Mail beta, you will not be able to switch back and forth between versions. Once your photos are migrated to the upgrade, there you will stay. The most active Y! Photos users will probably find themselves being upgraded first.
Just in time for summer photos. Woo hoo!

(Page 1)2. Guillaume: Thanks for your comment. During its development, a select few within Yahoo! had access to see how the upgrade was coming along. According to my sources, it's in a much more finished form now than it was three months ago and the access now for the purpose of beta testing is company-wide.

3. I search all the time for this new service. I predict this is going to blow away all the rest of the photo sharing services. Yahoo has a great user base, enough capital to spend to make this product great, and a great team from Flickr behind them.
Flickr is good, but it still has its quirks. It's also not free. This service should build on that great base and it's going to be absolutely free. That's awesome.

1. Hum I'm not sure I understood this one. The Yahoos have been in Yahoo! Photo 3.0 Beta for quite a while now. Shamir Ramjan at Y!France let me try it on his account. That was three onths ago.
How this week's beta will be different?
