Coolness - Yahoo! Calendar Sharing and Time Guides

The folks at Y! Cool Thing of the Day were talking about using the FIFA 2006 World Cup site calendars to add event dates to your Yahoo! Calendar. That was yesterday. Today there's a follow up that gave me a new paradigm on sharing Y! Calendars.

If you have more than one event to share with others (friends or the world), you can use this simple "outside the box" method described by my friends at Y! Cool Thing of the Day.
  1. Set up a Y! ID specifically for saving events on its calendar.
  2. Create the events under that Y! ID's calendar.
  3. Go to the "Sharing" settings (this link is near top right corner of any Y! Calendar page).
  4. Set the Sharing Option to "Anyone can view my calendar."
  5. Set the Event Sharing to "Public."
  6. Click "Save."

Then all you need to do is tell your friends or the world to add this as a Time Guide to their Y! Calendars using the following steps (shamelessly clipped from Y!CTOTD):
  1. Go to your Yahoo! Calendar
  2. Click on "Edit" next to "My Time Guides" (top right)
  3. Click on "Add/Edit Friends" next to "Friends' Calendars"
  4. Enter the Y! ID for the calendar and click "Add"
The same thing applies for Yahoo! Groups' calendars. They can appear on personal calendars as Time Guides as well. It's all good.
